How should I buy a skateboard, anyway?
As you probably can tell, we have a LOT of skateboards to offer on the site. That’s awesome, if you already know what you’re looking for, but what if you just don’t? Been riding the same set-up forever or buying a skateboard for your son, daughter or significant other? We’ve got you covered with some simple tips on what to buy.
There are a number of components that you NEED to have a complete skateboard setup. They are: Deck, Trucks, Wheels, Bearings, Hardware, Griptape, and Risers (optional).
Griptape
Ever wonder how the pros make that board stick to their feet without grabbing with their hands? Griptape is a component of the board that helps a lot with that. Griptape is the adhesive sheet of sandpaper-like grit paper that helps the skater’s rubber-soled shoe grip to the skateboard deck. There aren’t any widely used measurements for grippiness of grip tape (in the context of skateboarding), but people do have brand preferences.
Griptape is not interchangeable between boards, so every new deck requires a new sheet of grip tape.
Griptape is primarily for function in skateboarding, but you can also add some color and/or personality to your board by having awesome grip on your skateboard!
