College Scholarships for Skateboarders?

The College Skateboarding Educational Foundation (CSEF), in collaboration with EXPOSURE Skate, has opened its 2021 college scholarship applications!

CSEF exists to award college scholarships to skateboarders who are studying in the United States. It provides a new opportunity for skateboarders to build better futures for themselves. Regardless of financial assets or personal network, everyone deserves a chance at pursuing a college education. Skateboarders are no exception. After sending scholarship checks to nine universities in September 2020, CSEF is entering its fourth consecutive year of accepting applications and awarding scholarships to bright skateboarders all over the country.

The most recent scholarship class consisted of more than half BIPOC and/or international students. With four of its nine 2020 scholarship recipients being women, CSEF highlights the stories of a diverse bunch. “I find it important to support people of all backgrounds and identities through the scholarship fund,” says Keegan Guizard, Executive Director of CSEF.

This year, they continue to make diversity a priority by partnering with EXPOSURE, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women through skateboarding. EXPOSURE is most well-known for its [usually] annual skateboarding competition, the largest all-women skate contest in the world. In addition to the skateboarding competitions, they provide learn-to-skate clinics and wellness education. Proceeds from all of EXPOSURE’s events support survivors of domestic violence.

As a woman and professional skateboarder, Executive Director Amelia Brodka uses her platform to spread awareness about the importance of equity across genders in professional skateboarding while raising money to support the victims of domestic violence and abuse.

For the first time, c and EXPOSURE are coming together and setting aside scholarship dollars specifically for women, female-identifying, and non-binary skateboarders! Two skateboarders that are women, female-identifying, or non-binary will each be awarded $5,000 to go toward their school costs. Those who apply for the Exposure Scholarship within the CSEF 2021 Scholarship Application will NOT sacrifice being eligible to win a scholarship from CSEF as they usually would be.

To Apply for a CSEF Scholarship, visit collegeskateboarding.com/scholarships. When applying, there will be a checkbox regarding the Exposure Scholarship. Scholarships will be granted based on school grades, financial need, and quality of responses to essay questions in the application.

College Skateboarding Educational Foundation and EXPOSURE are both registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

Thank You Skateboarding.
